Supporting Local Foodbanks

At Buxton Building Contractors, we're committed to supporting our local community. Recently, our site manager, George Riddles, visited a local foodbank in Hastings to learn more about how they operate and how we can help.

George met with Paula, the Foodbank Manager, who explained how their system works. He was impressed by how organised and efficient their process is far more so than many people might expect. Paula mentioned that while they have been fortunate with funding, they've seen a significant increase in the number of people needing help over the past 18 months, while public donations have been declining.

What stood out to George was how the foodbank ensures people feel welcome and respected. Visitors are offered tea, coffee, and cakes upon arrival, and they leave with fresh food for the day, plus a week's worth of groceries. The aim is to help those in need without them feeling embarrassed or isolated.

Inspired by this, George has placed a donation crate near our site’s signing-in area, encouraging everyone to contribute. He’s confident our team will fill it quickly. Our client is also on board, setting up donation crates in their buildings and reaching out to tenants and visitors for support.

This effort reflects Buxton Building Contractors' commitment to making a real difference in the communities where we work.

Supporting Our Community: Buxton Building Contractors at Caterham Foodbank

Today, we had the privilege of delivering our collected food donations to the Caterham Foodbank, hosted at Caterham Baptist Church. The donations were gratefully received, as always, by the dedicated team of volunteers.

The need in our community is evident, with many people and young families relying on the foodbank's support. The volunteers not only distribute the much-needed items but also provide a listening ear to those going through tough times.

A special mention to Debbie, who remembered our previous contributions, reminding us that our efforts are truly appreciated.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, your generosity makes a real difference! 🌟
