Buxton Building Contractors are delighted to successfully complete the new Hemel Hempstead Crematorium for Watford Borough Council on behalf of West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee.
The new build crematorium provides a chapel for 136 people, with additional standing room for 115 people alongside associated services including congregation, crematory, administration, and staff spaces. The development also includes a separate pavilion with memorial facilities.
The site is adjacent to the new Poppy Fields cemetery at Bedmond Road by Bunkers Park in a quiet and tranquil space. Buxton had to establish and maintain a strong sense of place with landscape and building features including memorial gardens, woodland areas, long grass meadows with mown grass paths and hard landscaped entrance forecourt to the crematorium. We used materials that are robust and hard wearing yet contextually and environmentally appropriate.
