Dylan's Journey with Buxton

I joined Buxton in late August as an apprentice site manager and can easily say it has been an incredible journey. I have been given hands-on experience with a variety of projects, ranging from smaller new builds to a large refurbishment of a historic building dating back to the 1800s, as well as a six-storey residential tower block. These projects have allowed me to work with leading industry professionals, enabling me to grow my confidence, communication skills, and professional knowledge of construction.

This practical, on-the-job training has been reinforced with the theoretical knowledge I’ve gained through my studies at East Surrey College and, eventually, Greenwich University, where I will work towards acquiring my degree in site management. Both have enabled me to become a confident leader, effective communicator, and friendly team member, with an ambition to work my way through the ranks.

I am now working towards obtaining my CSCS card and First Aid at Work Course certification. Afterwards, I will aim to acquire an SMSTS qualification and Fire Marshal training.

Not only does this apprenticeship with Buxton provide me with the professional development to grow my skills, but it has also been a fun and engaging workplace, with frequent nights out in London and even a skiing holiday.

In conclusion, this apprenticeship has been transformative, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in construction.
