We are delighted to share the news that the new Hemel Hempstead Crematorium has been highly commended by the Civic Trust Award.
“Exceeding all expectations, the completed building and beautifully landscaped grounds stand as a testament to the team’s unwavering dedication to this challenging project. Not only did they have to tackle the intricacies of constructing within the green belt, but also the challenges of sharing the site with another facility, which affected the circulation routes of both people and vehicles.”
Joyce Pollaya, Senior Project Manager, Watford Borough Council
The Hemel Hempstead Crematorium is recognised for its serene environment, thoughtfully designed for those mourning their loved ones, blending simplicity, functionality, and a profound connection to its surroundings. Its architecture, with a pitched roof, integrates gently with the landscape, fostering a calm and contemplative atmosphere through the use of muted colours and carefully chosen materials.
Positioned to ensure privacy and harmony with nature, the chapel offers tranquil views of the landscape and a reflecting water pool. The high construction quality and meticulous attention to detail, including an accessible layout and consistent signage, enhance the peaceful ambiance. This collaboration between the client and architect has created a dignified space that supports the mourning process, earning accolades for its empathetic design and architectural excellence.
