We are delighted to have been awarded the Phase 2 Base Build Works at the Grade II Listed Imperial War Museum London located in Lambeth Road.
The works can be generally grouped into two phases:
Phase 1 - Basebuild construction works: designed to create space for new Second World War and The Galleries.
Phase 2 - Basebuild and Fit-Out works for the non-gallery spaces including creating new learning spaces.
We will be carrying out major structural alterations to accommodate the new Second World War and The Galleries, leaving the shell to be fitted out by either one or two Exhibition Principal Contractors. Buxton, however, will oversee the coordination of logistics during this phase.
In addition we will create new learning spaces, refurbish several of the toilet facilities and upgrade the HVAC services to some storage areas.
There are a number of contractor design portions to be managed by Buxton:
Structural Works
a) Intumescent Paint application and thickness to steel
b) Steel connection design and detailing of composite slabs
c) Temporary works
d) Design of the deck over the rear yard
M+E Services

c) BMS system, including interface with the existing BMS
d) M&E disconnections / re-connections and interventions required around the works

The museum will remain open to visitors throughout the 97 week programme and all efforts will be made to minimise disruption to both visitors and back of house operational staff during the works.
