The project involved the removal of the acoustic plaster and subsequent re-decoration of the vaulted ceilings.
We removed asbestos to affected areas and decorated the existing lime plaster walls whilst cleaning the existing Ashlar stonework at the same time.
The Cathedral remained open and activities continued to take place with visitors able to walk around designated areas to see the works being undertaken.
The project took excellent organisation and project management skills. ‘Pyramid’ scaffolding was erected to cover the whole ceiling to enable plastering, redecoration and lighting to be installed, this involved large steel beams being hung from the columns in the Nave to support the deck.
A platform lift and ramp was constructed outside the existing North East entrance, with a further ramp constructed to the west entrance. ‘Monk bond’ brickwork was used to match the existing Cathedral brickwork.
