A key part of the Kings School Malthouse Theatre project in Canterbury and programme driver is the temporary roof.
To facilitate this and protect the building from the elements a temporary roof spanning over 30 meters has been erected. Works at roof level are now underway allowing the internal works to continue.
The building originally built around 1900 by Mackeson’s to serve their brewery’s was refurbished in the 60’s and again in the 70’s. This impressive building still retains a number of original features and the current conversion from a Malthouse to a 334 seat theatre has been designed to retain and replace these features wherever possible. A major part of this is replacing the roof coverings, turrets and lucams and repairing the defective timber roof structure.
